When the owners of Wooly Mammoth Chicago met as students at Chicago's own Columbia College, they quickly discovered a mutual interest: Collecting teeth. Clearly the pairing was meant to be. So Adam and Sky Rust got married and opened Wooly Mammoth Antiques and Oddities in Andersonville.
This unique shop features floor-to-ceiling curiosities, everything from outdated hearing aids to teeth, taxidermy roadkill to preserved animal fetuses. Inside, random anatomy items, medical equipment, bones, skeletons, tools and other strange specimens beckon from every corner. And if you have a hankering some something weird that's not here, Sky and Adam will put it on a wishlist to snag if they come across it during their travels. Basically, the store is chock full of cool, bizarre stuff you never knew you needed but might just want to bring home once you see it.
The unifying theme of these seemingly unrelated items? Death. The owners say their stock attempts to make people more comfortable with the inevitable. But never fear, the Wooly Mammoth is anything but morbid. In fact, it's got quite a sense of humor. As Sky jokes, they are giving the taxidermy an afterlife of sorts, so the store is also a celebration of living. Either way you look at it, Wooly Mammoth Chicago is a true original.
