Digital Storytelling and Visitor Analytics for City and Cultural Institutions

Whip In is one of the most beloved institutions in Austin. It is equal parts convenience store, bar, restaurant, music space, and hang out spot. Whip In opened in 1986 from a converted gas station and quickly grabbed local attention with its massive local beer selection. Now Whip In is a full gastropub with 70 beers on tap along with large beer garden and music stage, as well as a from scratch kitchen serving up some of the best South Asian food in the city.

While Whip In serves great meat dishes, the plethora of great veggie options make it a favorite spot for Austin vegetarians. The vegan samosas are lauded by everyone who easts them. They are stuffed to the brim with raisins, peas, and spicy potatoes, lightly fried and served with a tamarind date sauce. The continued success of Whip is largely due to their ability to adapt. They are constantly rotating taps, tweaking the menu, and adding new items to their ever expanding selection of groceries. They recently added a delicious brunch menu and their happy hour always has great new food and drink specials. True to its name, the Whip In is one of the great spots in Austin to swing by after work and grab a quick bite and craft beer. If you happen to not want to hit the grocery store after, Whip In has all the essentials to get you through. It is part of Austin's charm that a dilapidated old gas station has transformed itself into one of the city's favorite hang out spots and taken its place as one of Austin's classic restaurants.
