Maine's First Ship is dedicated to building and operating a reconstruction of Virginia, the first English ship built in North America in 1607.

The Virginia

The ship they built, Virginia, was a small vessel known as a “pinnace”. Virginia was initially designed for coastal work and would play a vital part in the colony’s efforts at trade, fishing, and exploration.
