Urban South Brewery combines the heritage of European beer-making with the boldness of American styles. In their taproom, open seven days a week, enjoy year-round and seasonal beers, as well as specialty taproom-only beers. They have Crowlers, growlers and cans are available to go. Strategically placed between two competing breweries, Urban South founder and president Jacob Landry uses synergy to create community. This tactic worked well; the brewery's opening night party back in March 2016 saw over 600 beer enthusiasts come through the taproom.
Urban South has an unconventional beginning. Unlike other breweries that are born in garages, Urban South began in a classroom. Landry was originally a grade school teacher before attending business school and trading chalk for hops. Wes Osir brought brew experience to the mix, and Kyle Huling's background was in marketing. Together the three put their heads and expertise together and Urban South was born.
