Urban Growler Brewing Company was opened in 2014 by Master Brewer Deb Loch and co-head honcho Jill Pavlak. These two combined their complementary skills and passions to create great beer, food, and space for everyone. Deb and Jill traded their successful, steady income careers in corporate America and sales to pursue their passion for brewing and business. When Urban Growler Brewing Company opened, it was the first women-owned brewery in the state of Minnesota. Urban Growler’s mission is to bring people together through beer. The brewery, taproom, beer garden, and outside retail sales help establish community among all beer drinkers.
Urban Growler is located in the Creative Enterprise Zone, halfway between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul. They are surrounded by folks “making it here”—painters, musicians, dance studios, glass, and ceramic galleries. Urban provides a place for artists to display their work or perform, and features a different visual artist every quarter and live music every Wednesday.
The microbrewery makes drinkable beers that get people talking, all in 10-barrel batches under the close supervision of Master Brewer and Owner Deb Loch. Their brews may be traditional, like Cowbell Cream Ale®, non-traditional like their Big Boot™ Rye IPA, or inventive like their Plow to Pint® Series that uses the harvest of local farmers to create beers with a unique twist. Their kitchen crew handcrafts food with fresh, local ingredients that pair well with their house-made beer. Vegan and gluten-free needs can be accommodated with many food offerings, however, the brewery is not celiac-free. Their weekly specials include Taco Tuesday, Burger Wednesday, and Friday Special.
