French-inflected American classics never get old. I mean, regular pizza is beautiful and all, but flatbread with beets, smoked gouda, and pork belly is just... better. (Unpopular opinion? Maybe. But this is a battle we're willing to fight). We're especially willing to defend this stance because if you can convince your friends to order the dayboat (i.e. fresh as can be) scallops with farro and sunchokes, all that cheese and pork fat will even out. Right? That's how this works? Oh, and you know the classic combo grilled cheese and tomato soup? Here, they do it up with a duo of grilled horseradish & dill Havarti cheese sandwiches and creamy tomato, fennel & basil soup. It's perfect, we promise.
This is the sort of spot you should really visit with friends who are willing to share bites, because not a single one of you will want to miss out on the linguini cacio e pepe with a cured organic egg yolk or the shrimp and polenta cake with roasted red peppers or the braised short ribs with creamed corn seasoned like Mexican elote. Want confirmation on all those mouthwatering snacks? Watch this video from CM Pictures and tell us what you think.
If you're not feeling a full dinner, but still want to hang out in style, spend some time at Urbain 40's lounge. There, you can nurse a couple of cocktails while catching up with an old friend over ceviche and umami sliders with onion jam and pimento cheese. Finish it all off with a coffee caramel creme brulee, and there you have it - a perfect evening.
