“The Insider's Guide” Of Where To Go And What To Do In Chicago

The Library

If you enjoyed your dinner at The Gilt and are not ready to end the night, ask a waiter to take you downstairs. Don't worry about missing out on the restaurant's good cocktail list as you will find the same menu downstairs, along with the dinner menu.

The Library is a good name for a speakeasy as people will assume you are talking about an actual library and not that you spent all night drinking. Unless you have someone guiding you, though, the lounge can be tough to find as the door is unmarked in the long tunnel.

It is definitely a good place to bring a date as the intimate atmosphere is candle-lit cozy and the red velvet-covered booths give a romantic feel. Also, if you have nothing to talk about, you're surrounded by many conversation-starting books. Be sure to stop by the photo booth before you leave to capture the special night.

If you are feeling daring, tell the bartender what liquor you want and an adjective. They will come up with a cocktail with that information on the spot.
