Ukrainian Village is one of the neighborhoods that makes up West Town. Because of immigrants that came to the area during WWI, the area is filled with Ukrainian influence including bakeries, churches and the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art.
The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art developed as an alternative art venue for artists that were not supported by larger venues in the city.
The museum is known for having a packed schedule of art, music and literary events. Check out their events calendar below!
The permanent collection has grown and now holds art from many prominent Ukrainian artists such as Alexander Archipenko, Alexis Gritchenko, Mychajlo Andreenko as well as many artists or Ukrainian descent. It is one of the largest collections of Ukrainian-American abstract and minimalist work from the 1950's to the 70's.
