The Trump International Hotel and Tower was designed by Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) and was completed in 2009. Measuring 1,389 feet high, it's the second tallest building in Chicago. The Trump Tower is 92 stories and cost $847 million to build.

When it first opened, Trump Tower was home to the tallest residence in Chicago. The price of the view? $32 million. The Trump Tower has a central core of concrete with trusses that support the structure in high winds. This design technique is called core and outrigger construction.

Look at the Trump Tower in context with its surroundings; it was designed with three setbacks, each corresponding with one of its iconic neighbors.

At 16 stories, the first corresponds to the height of the Wrigley Building.

The second corresponds with River Plaza and Marina City at 29 stories.

The third setback corresponds with 330 N. Wabash Ave, formerly known as IBM Plaza, currently the site of the Langham hotel to the west.
