On march 15, 2019, New York celebrated the grand opening of Hudson Yards — the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States — including a wealth of offices, residences, and retail outlets. Its focal point and centrepiece is a publicly accessible structure designed by Heatherwick studio, known as The Vessel, which happens to be the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western emisphere. The structure is a spiralling, escher-esque maze comprising 154 flights of stairs that ascend skywards and 80 landings.

Visitors can climb the giant honey-comb like sculpture, enjoying sweeping views from its heights and an unprecedented socializing experience on its landings. Although The Vessel has not been designed for kids primarily, it does offer them a mind-blowing experience, the mesmerizing sight of the sculpture is a real treat and scaling the maze is in no-doubt fun, a new approach to experiencing art. "We've never designed anything like this before, and we'll probably never design anything like it again," said Heatherwick Studio group leader and partner Stuart Wood.
