The most well-known outdoor ice rink in Chicago is the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink at Millennium Park. The rink is situated along Michigan Ave. and is frequented by locals and visitors alike. Skating is always free and open to the public, but if you need to rent skates you can do so for a small cost The rink offers convenient daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours. There's always a great view of the city reflected off The Bean.
Not a skater? No problem, just hang out and enjoy a hot drink, Italian beef or Chicago-style hot dog and watch from the adjoining Park Cafe.
When it comes to McCormick Tribune Rink, the earlier you arrive the better, especially with young kids in tow. During the weekend and holiday break, the lines can be long so coming when the rink opens is best.
FREE skating lessons are available every weekend an hour before the rink opens. (Yes, you parents can take advantage too, no one is watching.) Friday: 11am to noon; Sat & Sun 9am to 10am.
