The Health Museum is not only dedicated to healthier living, but it is also a fun and informative place to visit! This museum is part of the Texas Medical Center, and its aim is to increase curiosity about human health. This museum prides itself on being extremely interactive. If a journey through a colossal human body sounds intriguing—just the spine is 22 ft. long with floor to ceiling ribs—be sure to check out the "Amazing Body Gallery." One of the experiences that you can expect within this popular permanent exhibit includes walking through a human brain maze, complete with memory games. There is also a Calorie Crank, which shows and explains how many calories you need to burn for specific foods. There are 30 interactive stations and many activities to enjoy in this exhibit as you learn how your major organs work.
Visitors of the museum are challenged to do something that you won’t see at most museums: redefine the concepts of beauty. By experiencing the "More than Skin Deep" interaction, visitors are able to see what it is like to step into another person's body. The exhibit explores things such as mental health and body image, and also shows what genetic conditions actually look like up close. This helps to teach others how to be more understanding and compassionate to others who may be different than themselves. If you are looking for a museum to visit that will teach you more about yourself and others, The Health Museum in Houston is a stop that you will not want to miss!
