Step inside the Washington Street entrance of the Cultural Center and be met by glistening walls of white Carrara marble and shimmering mosaics that glisten in the light of bronze sconces.

The three-story vaulted lobby and two broad elliptical arches overhead are trimmed in a mosaic pattern inlaid with the names of great writers.

On your walk up the Grand Staircase, pause at every landing to enjoy the ever-changing maze of marble and mosaics displayed on the underside of the open staircase above.

The multicolored mosaics are made of Favrile glass, colored stone and mother of pearl, whereas the small green medallions in the staircase are of rare emerald marble from Connemara, Ireland.

At the top of the Grand Staircase, look around and marvel at the illuminated arched glass transom that looks out on Washington Street below while you read literary quotations on the frieze above.
