Squibb Park and Bridge provides a unique and vital access point to the park. The bridge’s proximity to public transportation offers park visitors a route to Brooklyn Bridge Park that is not only convenient but dramatic. Made of black locust timber, bronze, and galvanized steel, Squibb Park Bridge connects Pier 1 with Brooklyn Heights, allowing visitors to come and go with ease and putting them within a stone’s throw of public transportation. It serves as a pedestrian shortcut from Brooklyn Heights to Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The 450-foot bridge was designed to have a slight bounce that mimics the light airy trail bridges found in state parks, but after while pedestrians noticed the bounce increased more and more. The bridge was closed for about 3 years and recently opened again in 2017 once the "extra bounce" issue was resolved.
