The grandeur of The Chicago Theatre, which opened in 1921, often leaves its visitors breathless.

The elegant lobby, majestic staircase and beautiful auditorium complete with murals above the stage and on the ceiling, are components of an amazing building called “the Wonder Theatre of the World.” An array of the entertainment world’s brightest stars and greatest productions grace The Chicago Theatre’s stage, totaling as many as 175 events per year.

The 3,600-seat auditorium is seven stories high. The vertical sign “C-H-I-C-A-G-O,” at nearly six stories high, is one of the few such signs in existence today. A symbol of State Street and Chicago, the sign and marquee are landmarks in themselves, as is the 29-rank Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ. This Wurlitzer Pipe Organ has been granted city landmark status unto itself. (The first musical instrument having attained such status.) In most theatres, the organs were completely taken out. It is very rare that an original organ from the Movie Palace era is still in its original home.

The Chicago Theatre also hosts Marquee Tours, which encompass historical and architectural highlights of the building, including the grand lobby, sweeping staircase and majestic auditorium. Tour guests have the chance to stand on the famous Chicago Theatre stage, plus view artist signatures on the dressing room walls, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Dolly Parton and so many more!
