Thai Kun is part of the venerable family that makes up the East Side King food trucks. East Side King is the work of one of Austin's most well-known chefs, The one and only Paul Qui. Paul Qui is the chef from Uchiko who thoroughly dominated the 9th season of Top Chef, and Thai Kun is his gift to the eastside. His food truck brings palate exploding southeast Asian flavors to a city in need of more Asian food. Thai Kun is in the courtyard of Whisler's, the eastside staple and for many people the best cocktail bar in the city.

There are seven items on the menu at Thai Kun, and every one of them is already a classic. It is best to get a couple of friends together and share as many plates as possible. Some favorites include the beef panang curry, beef chuck simmered in homemade panang curry, kaffir lime leaf, steamed jasmine rice, and basil. Another must eat is the Khao man gai, thai-style steamed chicken on chicken fat rice with chicken jus along with cold cucumber and fermented soybean sauce. So if you are in the mood for some creative and mind-blowing Thai food, order a cocktail at Whisler's, grab some panang curry and Kaho man gai at Thai Kun, and find yourself in eastside Austin heaven.
