When Steamworks moved into its location in 1995, they discovered that it had a secret underground steam heating system. After finding all of these steam pipes underneath their building, Steamworks started researching. Inspired by their unusual situation, they decided to create an entirely unique steam-powered brewery, never before seen in Canada.
Steamworks's beers have received critical acclaim, with beer lovers from all over the world traveling to Vancouver to try their brews. Their Flagship IPA was awarded both "Best in Show" and "Best IPA" at the BC Brewing Awards.
Steamworks offers interesting specialty beers including a Salted Chocolate Porter, a Nitro Stout, a Black Angel IPA, and a Winter Lager. They also sell variety packs mixed with different beers.
Steamworks has the Brew Pub, which offers food, wine, spirits, cocktails, and, of course, beer. They offer a variety of food such as burgers, pasta, salads, and bowls. They have vegan and gluten-free options as well. Special cocktails include the Steamworks Beergarita, an apricot bourbon sour, and the coconut mojito. With respect to spirits, they have a large selection of Irish, Scottish, Canadian, and American whiskeys. They also have a drink called the Oompa Loompa. Dare to try?
Steamworks is open Sunday–Wednesday from 12–10pm, Thursday from 12–11pm, and Friday–Saturday from 12pm–12am. They are open each day for brewery tours, keg rentals, and growler fills. If you have a large group, the Brew Pub can accommodate special events. They have special rooms like the Uber Lounge and the Harbor View Room, with wooden floors and upscale decor.
