“The Insider's Guide” Of Where To Go And What To Do In Chicago
Stage 773 is a non-profit theater that showcases all types of performance art talent. Come here to watch anything from a comedy improv show to a musical.
Multiple shows run at a time and over 20 are produced every year. The theater is made up of many stages, allowing plays and musicals to happen at once. There's something here for everyone. If you're at all familiar with social media, you may have seen a popular meme of a cast singing "I don't really wanna do the work today" in cave-women costumes circulating through facebook and twitter. It came from the performance of the musical Fire Bringer at this theater!
Stage 773 also has festivals that get unrecognized names out there, like Sketchfest, where anyone can enter. These festivals work to represent underrepresented minorities, like women and people of color. Tickets range from $15 to over $50 depending on the popularity, venue used, and production value. Typically, the comedy shows will be less expensive than the musicals.
This theater has only been producing shows since 2002, but since then, has made big waves in the Chicago theater scene.
