With a reputation as San Antonio’s funky yet fun neighborhood, Southtown has become the art hub in this Texas city. A wearer of many hats, old, new, and hip, this neighborhood began as an elegant residential area in the late 1800s. In recent years, the neighborhood has seen an influx of new businesses, such as galleries, restaurants, and museums in the King William District, that have brought a bohemian vibe to the area.
Home to several museums and attractions, Southtown has no shortage of things to do and places to explore. Locations such as Steves Homestead Museum, an elegant three-story mansion built in 1876, and the entire King William Historic District are perfect places for visitors to peruse and experience a gracious reminder of the past. If you're looking to enjoy breakfast and a walk in the park, Southtown will again deliver. Sit down for an early morning meal at the historic Guenther House featuring an All American Breakfast, fresh pastries, and custom roasted Founder's Choice Coffee. After you eat, walk off your meal at the nearby Roosevelt Park.
A day out shopping in the neighborhood will be full of browsing art galleries, visiting farmers' markets, and sipping craft drinks. A lover of the arts can find anything from large art pieces meant for vast interiors to unique prints made by local artists. The Blue Star Arts Complex and the Pearl Brewery are large complexes full of shops and galleries to start off your day in Southtown. Caffeine lovers rejoice because Southtown is home to several coffee shops to choose from—all with their own style and vibe. Shops like Halcyon Southtown, Don Martin's Coffee Co, Brown Coffee Co - Southtown, Sip Brew Bar & Eatery, and many more fill the neighborhood, making Southtown a haven for those who love to coffee shop hop.
Nightlife in Southtown doesn't disappoint with enough bars to keep you coming back each night to try the next one. Bars like Bar 1919, Liberty Bar, and the Filling Station Tap Room are only just a few of the possible spots for visitors to spend an evening with friends and have an authentic San Antonio experience.
