In recent years, Charlotte residents have witnessed the decline in the number of music venues, including Tremont Music Hall, Amos’ Southend, and the Double Door Inn. Three local punk rock musicians witnessing this trend decided to give music lovers a new venue. Taylor Arthur, Justin Driscoll, and Joshua Taddeo knew they needed to do more than grieve and instead decided to open a rock ‘n’ roll bar and Skylark Social Club was born.
It was a slow process for the trio and they experienced many obstacles throughout the process. There was a dead-end for over a year, as certain people didn’t approve of the concept. But they made it happen and have recruited many great bands ranging from Hip Hop, rap, DJs, although a majority of Rock N Roll. Located in the heart of Plaza Midwood, patrons can expect local, live music on the weekends, pop-up music shows, and art exhibitions. There's also a pool table, darts, and jukebox available in the bar area.
The full bar includes domestic beers and rotating local brews and ciders. Organic sodas and energy drinks are available, and drink specials include Jameson as well as PB&Js (PBR and Jameson). A $1 lifetime membership is required to get in, available at the door. Hours will be 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Monday–Friday, and noon-2 a.m. Saturday–Sunday.
Skylark is named after one of the owners' 1966 Buick, which can often find parked under the bar’s signage out front.
