The craft beer scene has exploded so quickly in Columbus that is easy to forget that Seventh Son Brewing is one of the older craft breweries in the city. They opened the doors to the public in 2013 in a former auto mechanic shop in Columbus’ Italian Village neighborhood. Seventh Son Brewing has a reputation of bringing creativity and flair to their flavor profiles. The ethos at Seventh Son is that nothing is off the table in terms of flavor or influence. They take inspiration from a broad variety of sources, in a way very similar to New American cuisine. It gives them an edge in the craft beer scene as their beers tend to have creative flourishes that would not be considered at most other breweries.
Seventh Son Brewing specializes in IPAs and ales, blending tradition with innovation to create concoctions both unique and familiar. Their flagship beer. the Seventh Son is an American strong ale with seven hops, aromatically hoppy with rich malts and a jammy nutty flavor. Another favorite in the tasting room is the Humulus Nimbus, a berry-piney hops with light malts that toes the line between an IPA and a pale ale.
A brewery tour is the best way to get a feel for how Seventh Son operates. Fortunately, tours are offered every Friday at 7 and give visitors some insight into how Seventh Son has carved out a distinct place in the craft beer community it Columbus. Seventh Son also invites a rotating group of local food trucks that serve the delicious and creative food every night of the week.
