Families can enjoy a professional ice hockey game at the SAP Center in downtown San Jose where two teams play. Home to the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks and their American Hockey League-affiliated team, the San Jose Barracuda, the SAP Center is the place to be on game nights! Hockey fans looking for a bite to eat or to do a little shopping before the game can find both at the SAP Center. If you want to suit up with team-spirited attire for the game, stop by the Sharks Store at the arena for shirts, hoodies, or jerseys in white, black, and teal. The SAP Center is conveniently located just blocks from San Jose Diridon Station, the central hub for passenger trains in Santa Clara County and Silicon Valley.
The SAP Center, or the Shark Tank, as it's known to local hockey fans, was completed in 1993. On nights when the Sharks take the ice, the arena comes alive with the sounds of more than 17,000 hockey fans. The hype begins as the team enters through a 17-foot wide open shark jaw with flashing red eyes. As Metallica’s Seek & Destroy blares over the loudspeakers, the decibel level of the crowd rises to match the music.
Get ready to do “The Chomp” during power plays. When you hear the Jaws theme song, extend your arms in front of you and move them up and down like a shark chomping on its prey.
In addition to ice hockey games, the facility has hosted figure skating championships, basketball tournaments, arena football games, gymnastic meets, Esports competitions, mixed martial arts events, WWE matches, live concerts, and theatrical performances.
