Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a professional race car driver? At the Rusty Wallace Driving Experience, folks with a need for speed can get inside a race car and drive on the same tracks as their favorite NASCAR drivers. The experience is held at the Richmond International Speedway which is Virginia's largest sports venue. Although the track is only 0.75 miles long, drivers reach speeds of 130 mph which is an incredible feat on such a short racing track.
Rusty Wallace is a retired NASCAR driver and has been described in the racing community as one of the sport's most colorful characters. Rusty Wallace always portrayed the essence of "racing intensity." Therefore, it is no surprise that the racing experience was dedicated in his honor. His greatest racing achievement was becoming the NASCAR Winston Cup champion in 1989.
There are two different racing opportunities to choose from—the Richmond International Raceway Driving Experience or the Ride Along Experience. The Driving Experience allows drivers 18 years and older can see what it's like to drive a NASCAR racecar on an actual racetrack. Participants can enjoy a quick 4-lap ride or can simulate race day by completing an entire 50-lap race.
The Ride Along Experience allows you to sit shotgun in a real NASCAR Sprint Cup car driven by a professional instructor and complete a 3-lap qualifying run. Sometimes, the designated driver may be one of NASCAR's 50 greatest drivers of all time. Participants must be at least 14 years old and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
