“The Insider's Guide” Of Where To Go And What To Do In Chicago
River Valley Ranch Farmer's Table is a farm-to-table restaurant, which offers many organic and fresh meals that come from locally grown farms. They have prided themselves on their chemical-free dishes and their vegan options. Eating here means knowing what you are eating is not only good for you but you are also supporting Mid-Western farmers.
Bill Rose founded the establishment in 1975 based on his longing to harvest mushrooms, which were scarce in the Midwest. Being a Chicago-native, Rose knew how difficult it would be to find some of the fresh produce in parts of the Midwest. He didn't let that stop him and went on to open up a mushroom farm in Wisconsin. Sometimes you need to bring the farm to the city and Rose understood that.
The mushroom farm, despite needing to overcome a lot of difficulties, thrived but Rose would still have leftover mushrooms that didn't get sold. He soon discovered his talent in making food with the produce and a kitchen was born. From then to now, River Valley Ranch has grown to be a multi-disciplinary, sustainable food business. They help to provide amazing, fresh local produce to Ravenswood to give them great tasting, organic meals. Rose's love for mushrooms is still evident on the menu with items such as vegan mushroom tacos and mushroom ravioli.
River Valley Ranch went from selling pickled 'shrooms to pasta sauces, salsas, soups, veggie burgers, and more. They offer plenty of vegetarian and vegan-friendly recipes, all made with ingredients grown on their farm.
When it comes to the in-house menu, River Valley Ranch offers a brunch menu featuring burgers, sandwiches. and small plates. Their egg dishes are made from the eggs on their own farm, of course.
Want to make some of their delicious meals at home? Not only do they provide various recipes on their website but the restaurant also has a grocery store. You can purchase their fresh produce, homemade pasta sauces, salsas, dips, pickled 'shrooms, and more.
