Reformation believes beer is a gift and should be free from fear, noise, and neglect. The mutual love for beer, particularly classic styles from Europe are the heart of the formation of Reformation Brewing. Co-founders Spencer Nix and Nick Downs have turned the brewery into one of the most celebrated microbreweries in the southeast. Watch Spencer Nix tell the story of the early days of Reformation Brewing:
Reformation Brewing was named after the iconic leader of the protestant reformation Martin Luther. He often invited students back to his home to have conversations about life, theology, and more while sipping on his wife’s home-brewed ale. Spencer Nix and Nick Downs wanted to foster the same kind of welcoming atmosphere and thoughtful discussions. The patio at Reformation is always bustling with kids and beer aficionados alike. The focus at Reformation is to breathe new life into classic beer styles. Spencer and Nick first bonded over their mutual love of old-world flavor profiles and techniques. There are always new beers being created here, but one of the beers that put Reformation on the map is the Belgian Tripel Delicate. This modern Belgian-Style Tripel has a floral aroma and clean citrus finish as well as a sweet malt character and high alcohol content. Another local favorite is the Stark. The Stark is a robust porter with hints of chocolate from toasted malts, it is a dry medium-bodied porter and is exceptionally drinkable any time of day or night.
