For over 40 years, the American Alpine Institute has been a leader in technical climbing education, offering a variety of mountaineering opportunities in the United States. Those who have a serious passion for climbing may want to check out the guided tours available in Red Rock Canyon.
Locally known as Red Rocks, the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers thousands of routes for beginning, intermediate, and advanced level climbs. This makes Red Rocks one of the best destinations in the country for rock climbing. No other region in the United States offers so many climbing opportunities in such close proximity to a large metropolitan city. Climbers can explore a serene, desert wilderness by day and enjoy the amenities and lively entertainment of Las Vegas at night.
Located about 20 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, the Red Rock Canyon is a great place for climbers to participate in educational programming to learn how to climb or to advance their climbing skills. There are a variety of options for climbers from all backgrounds and ability levels. The available climbing programs focus on different themes—anchor building, movement skills, rock rescue, or basic skills for beginners. Experienced hikers can work on leadership skills or sign up for climbs with single-pitch terrain and multi-pitch routes. Due to lower, more comfortable temperatures, September through May is the best season for climbing in Las Vegas. However, if you're looking for fewer crowds, consider climbing in the summer during the hours of 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.
