Pretentious Barrel House is a pioneer in the sour beer phenomenon. Pretentious Barrel House was the first dedicated sour brewery in the Columbus Area. The brewmaster's vast knowledge of sour beer production and microbe management ensures that only the highest quality sour beer is produced. Pretentious Barrel House manufactures a wide range of beer along the sour spectrum. This gives patrons the option of easing into the sour or just going all out right from the get-go. The mission of Pretentious Barrel House is simple, to produce award-winning sours that change people’s perspectives regarding craft beer.
Homebrewers may know what it's like to make a sour beer by accident. At Pretentious Barrel House, all of the sour is on purpose. Some might call it an acquired taste, but sour beer is one of the most popular trends in craft brewing. The Tap Room at the brewery is meant as a place for people to gather, relax, enjoy, and share. Covered in incredible murals and pulsating with creative energy, the Tap Room is available for rent and is often the site of local events and holiday parties. The life of a pint starts in one of the 30 BBL fermenters where the majority of the sugars are converted into the beer. They are then transferred to wood barrels of dizzying variety. From red wine to Tequila, white wine to Bourbon, this part of the aging process gives each beer a unique and exciting flavor profile. The Tap Room makes a great backdrop for local artists and bands, and many a great show has taken place at the Pretentious Barrel House.
