Sometimes you just need to pet a cat. At the Pounce Cat Cafe + Wine Bar in Charleston, you can sip on a glass of house wine and try a tasty treat made by Brown’s Court Bakery while you wait to play with the cats in their Instagram-worthy, Anthropologie-inspired hangout.
The owners, Ashley Brooks and Annaliese Hughes, opened Pounce in December of 2016 with the goal of helping as many cats as possible find their forever home. They partnered with the Charleston Animal Society to foster up to 20 cats at a time, providing them with a cozy place to play and enjoy the company of cat-loving customers.
Hear about how Ashley and Annaliese came up with this idea:
Since Ashley and Annaliese opened their first Pounce location in Charleston (the second is in Savannah, Georgia), they have helped find homes for over 1,350 kittens and adult cats. And they don’t want to stop there! In the future, they hope to expand their business concept to cat cafes across the country. A limited number of people are allowed into Pounce at one time, so reservations are recommended, though not required. A small entrance fee and the proceeds from purchases of feline-inspired fashion, signature accessories, and other merchandise go to support Pounce’s mission of making the South a “no-kill” zone. Donations for the Charleston Animal Society are always welcome, too! If you find a furry friend you want to take home with you, just let the staff know and they can help you fill out the adoption paperwork.
