The Painted Lady Lounge is a nitty-gritty lounge, thought to be the city's oldest, in Hamtramck. During the Prohibition Era, Hamtramck was full of lawlessness and laden with houses-turned-speakeasies. The Painted Lady is an old Victorian-style house that was once legendary punk venue Lili's 21 Club. The venue closed in 2002, but since 2004 The Painted Lady Lounge has kept the spirit of its roots alive by hosting punk and indie bands on the weekends.
True to rebel spirit, The Painted Lady ignore's the state smoking ban and allows patrons to light up inside the bar. The tattooed and amiable bartenders are known to make strong drinks, the decor is full of stickers and band posters, and the dim lighting makes for intense games of pool.
