North Beach San Francisco

Hi! I'm Claire an avid traveler and Digital Nomad. At 34 I sold all my worldly possessions that wouldn’t fit into 3 boxes or in my backpack and hit the road.

North Beach isn't actually on the beach anymore, but San Francisco's Little Italy is still the only place to go in search of good coffee and Italian food.

The best thing to do here is to eat your way around. I created a whole adventure just on places to eat and drink in North Beach, so I won't go into too much detail here. However, if you want delicious Italian pastries then head to Mara's, for gelato Cafe Greco, and if you want to drink a coffee where Mario Puzo wrote most of the Godfather, head to Cafe Trieste.

If you have time be sure to drop into City Lights Bookstore to grab yourself a copy of Howl written by another of San Francisco's famous residents, Allen Ginsberg. Ginsberg with part of the Beat Movement that originated in the city back in the 1950s.

You can take a walking tour of North Beach with Walks Tours which I would recommend. On the tour, you will learn about the history of the area and how it has evolved into the vibrant neighborhood it is today.

Top Tip: If you are using this adventure to work your way around the best neighborhoods in San Francisco then I recommend starting in Chinatown and then crossing over into North Beach after as they are next to each other.
