> The NBC Tower is where we are docking and ending the tour.
NBC Tower was designed by Adrian D. Smith of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and was inspired by NBC's global headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. It's a widely renowned example of the Art Moderne style. It takes local inspiration from the Tribune Tower by incorporating the stylized buttresses.
At 37 stories high and 627 feet tall, it is the 40th tallest building in Chicago. Despite its size, its still one of the easily recognized buildings in the city, with the help of the illuminated peacock at the top. The sign was first switched on by NBC President Bob Wright on October 20, 1989, when the building was completed.
This marks the end of the Odyssey Chicago River Cruise Experience. Thank you for joining us! If you'd like to see Chicago from the Lake, you can explore our sister cruise, Odyssey Lake Michigan.
