Take a walk on the wild side at the Nashville Zoo! This award-winning zoo has 365 species of amphibians, birds, fish, mammals, reptiles, and arthropods and is one of the city’s most-visited attractions.
You can explore the zoo on your own or take a 45-minute themed tour led by a trained docent during which you’ll learn about animal families or the zoo’s conservation efforts. For behind-the-scenes access, you can book a Backstage Pass tour. Choose from three VIP experiences including This Is What We Zoo, Saving Species, and Rise & Shine With Rhinos. Each experience gives you a different perspective on the lives of the zoo animals and how they are fed and cared for. Kids will love the zoo where they can interact with the animals, take a ride on the Wilderness Express Train or the Wild Animal Carousel, or play on the 66,000 square foot jungle gym. Adventurous visitors can soar through the tree tops at speeds of up to 28 mph on the Soaring Eagle Zip Line. The zip line gives you a bird’s-eye of the animals’ habitats.
The zoo is located on the Grassmere estate. Guided tours of the Grassmere Historic Farm and the 19th-century home on the property are given between the first week in March and the first week in October as well as during the Christmas season when the house is decorated for the holidays. Trained interpreters tell you the story of the property and the families who lived there.
