“The Insider's Guide” Of Where To Go And What To Do In Chicago
The first sight you witness when you walk into Myopic Books is their impressive wall-to-wall selection. Truly, there is not a single space that doesn’t house your next great read. Myopic Books is similar to a classic bookstore but with the age and mystery of something much more special. A bibliophile is sure to have their day planned out for them the second they step through the door. With over 80,000 books to choose from, especially ones that are completely undiscovered, there is always a good book waiting to be read.
Myopic Books has three levels and plenty of spaces to sit and enjoy your surroundings. It’s easy to see why the bookstore is so loved by its patrons; it’s like stepping inside a different world. Besides the fact that every inch of space is crammed with a book of some sort and it already feels like you're stepping into one of the stories, cell phones are strictly banned. The owner of Myopic is simple in his rules for the reading environment. He believes that the books should take center stage and the people inside should be present within their book journey and not answering calls. He also asks that everyone who takes out a book should restock what they’ve taken out. Myopic functions more like someone’s personal library collection than a retail store.
One of the most exciting parts of Myopic, besides the books, of course, is their experimental music series every Monday evening and twice-a-month poetry readings. All are free and open to the public so stop on by—you never know what you may hear. Myopic has not only been praised by those who visit but has also won the achievements of being called Chicago's favorite used book store by the Chicago Reader and Chicago Magazine.
