Opening in 1994, Motor City Brewery is the oldest continuously operating brewery in Detroit. The secret to their longevity is their commitment to high-quality beer made in the city as their tribute to the colorful tapestry of Detroit cultural exports. Staying true to their roots in the Motor City, Motor City Detroit constructed its brewery using salvaged equipment and remains of the great industrial works of Detroit built during its golden age, boasting that they were forged by the greatest craftsmen in the city as a result. Their commitment to authenticity and quality has paid off as their beers are well known both in Detroit and in larger national publications, winning accolades from magazines such as GQ and Playboy.
Not content with merely leaving their legacy to their beer alone, Motor City Brewery also added to Detroit’s legacy by releasing a compilation of Detroit artists on a CD entitled Ghettoblasters. It includes a number of artists and styles ranging from alternative, folk, New Age, and Reagree. The Detroit News called this album a great gift for the holidays, but it can be enjoyed year-round.
In keeping with their community-centered beliefs, Motor City Brewery has participated in a number of citywide events in addition to its role as a brewery. One of the most prominent is Noel Night, an annual festival in December celebrating the artists and other contributors to culture in Detroit making it a more interesting place.
Motor City Brewery is open all week, although note that the kitchen closes thirty minutes prior to closing and they do not take reservations for the taproom in case you come with a large party. If you want to experience Detroit culture with a brewery that believes wholeheartedly in it, then come to Motor City Brewery. Plan your visit today!
