Midnight Madness officially kicks off Ann Arbor's holiday season. Coinciding with Kindlefest, the extravaganza is a great opportunity to "shop local" in Ann Arbor. The area's small businesses turn on their festive lights, paint their windows, and offer great deals on merchandise.
Additionally, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and pubs offer happy hours and drink specials. For example, create your idea of the perfect hot chocolate at Sweetwaters Coffee Tea's hot cocoa bar or enjoy $5 martinis at the Chop House. Some bars are open until 2 a.m. Live musical performances add some holiday cheer from 7 to 9 p.m. There are appearances by the Anything Goes Quartet, the Pioneer Choir, and the University of Michigan Women's Glee Club. The Morris Dancers and the University of Michigan Irish Dance Team also show off their fancy footwork for the holiday shoppers.
While children will love a guest appearance by Santa Claus and Miss Washtenaw County, adults will appreciate the free gift wrapping and complimentary drinks and snacks offered at many stores. At Himalayan Bazaar, take time to meet a Mount Everest climber or snap a photo with North America’s only rickshaw straight from Kathmandu.
Midnight Madness is held throughout the business districts of Ann Arbor. Come out for Ann Arbor's most exciting holiday shopping event.
