Originally founded in 1987 as the tourism arm of the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce, Experience Scottsdale became a standalone organization in 2001. The organization has more than 40 full- and part-time employees, along with a volunteer board of directors composed of local hospitality and tourism industry leaders.

Are you a fan of getting out in the great outdoors? This protected, sustainable desert preserve is the perfect place to get your sweat on. There are more than 30,000 acres and 200 miles of trails to explore, each offering a different view of the beautiful and unique Sonoran landscape.

All non-motorized sports are welcome on the trails of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. So whether your jam is biking, hiking, rock climbing, or horseback riding, there's a path waiting for you here. The most popular trail is Tom's Thumb, a rocky outcropping that is the perfect place to take photos of your visit.

So bring your bike. Your hiking boots. Your horse. Or you canine companion. Breathe in the fresh air, enjoy the desert landscape, and burn a few calories while you're at it. The McDowell Sonoran Preserve is a natural playground you're sure to enjoy.

Run, ride, hike, climb!
