Maryland Science Center

With a focus on open-ended exploration, the Maryland Science Center is a great place for families to spend a day in Baltimore. It is located in the city's Inner Harbor and offers three floors of exhibits, an observatory, and a planetarium. Exhibits focus on a variety of scientific themes, such as Dinosaur Mysteries, Your Body: The Inside Story, and Life Beyond Earth. During a typical visit, the Center's friendly staff organizes live shows, experiments, and hands-on science encounters.

Crosby Ramsey Memorial Observatory

Crosby Ramsey Memorial Observatory is located on the rooftop and grants visitors the opportunity to view planets, stars, the sun, and other astronomical events through a computer-controlled telescope. There are many organized sky-gazing events geared toward looking at the day or night sky. Programming varies, but events often take place year-round on Friday afternoons, Friday evenings, and on Saturdays. The Maryland Science Center suggests checking their online calendar of events for more information. The observatory is open and free to the public.

If you're curious about what kind of hands-on science activities are taking place at the Maryland Science Center, take a few minutes to watch the video below. New experiments are featured every week.

IMAX

The Maryland Science Center offers the opportunity to enjoy a variety of different films on their one-of-a-kind, 5-story IMAX theater. A number of films run throughout the day with most geared toward families. However, there are also adult-centered movie nights with a cocktail hour, experiments, and a cash bar available during the movie showing. Prices vary for documentary films versus feature films. Check their website below for showtimes, special events, and IMAX show pricing. Please note, IMAX is not included in the cost of admission.

Davis Planetarium

Families can also enjoy an engaging show on the dome of the Star Theater in the Davis Planetarium. A variety of different presentations are offered daily. Themes include topics such as which stars you can see in the night's sky, a journey exploring space, or exploring the idea of aliens. Shows at the Planetarium are included in the price of admission. However, upon arrival, it's a good idea to choose your show and to arrive on time as seats are first come first serve.
