Digital Storytelling and Visitor Analytics for City and Cultural Institutions

The Mark Morris Dance Center is located in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. It is the permanent home of the international touring modern dance company, the Mark Morris Dance Group. Open since 2001, the Center also houses rehearsal space for the dance community, outreach programs for local children and area residents, as well as a school offering dance classes to students of all ages.

The Mark Morris Dance Group spent time in Belgium during 1988-1991. The experience of staff and dancers working together under the same roof was one of the most unifying periods for the group. In fact, it's what inspired the company to build their own dance studio in order to rehearse together again. Now the facility is one of the only that was built by a single dance company in the U.S. The typical practice in the U.S. is for dance companies to rent rehearsal spaces, which can even lead to switching locations on a daily basis.

Since 1980, the Mark Morris Dance Group has inspired audiences with thrilling dance performances and innovative engagement and education initiatives under the direction of the artistic director Mark Morris.

MMDg & BRiC House

In August of 2017, BRIC house announced that in partnership with Mark Morris Dance Group, Museum of Contemporary and Diasporan African Arts and Theatre for a New Audience, they would build a new fellowship. The fellowship emphasizes diversity by building long-term equity and diversity in the field of arts management.

The Fellowship also prioritizes voices from racial and ethnic communities that are historically underrepresented in the industry. It helps promote low-income individuals who have not had access to internships or costly master's degrees that are often required for positions in the industry. Over 600 applications were received for the 7 available fellowship positions.

Each Fellow will complete a twelve-week intensive at each of the four partner institutions, learning about multiple departments of an arts organization, including Marketing and Community Engagement, Development, Administration and Finance, Production and Tech, Education, and Curatorial and Programming.
