THE STORY: A group of young Bohemians navigate the ups and downs of life and love while struggling to make ends meet in 19th-century Paris. IF YOU LIKE: Unabashedly romantic love stories, youthful hope, melodies that tug at the heartstrings. DID YOU KNOW? The 1994 blockbuster musical RENT is based on LA BOHÈME. Creator Jonathan Larson saw himself and his roommates in the opera's characters.

THE STORY: Within the social circles of sophisticated Paris, the courtesan Violetta lives purely for pleasure but longs for true love. ARIODANTE (Handel)

LOVE, DEATH, DECEPTION, AND PUPPETS Onstage March 2-17

THE STORY: The King of Scotland's daughter loves Ariodante--but there's a problem. A villainous rival is also in love with her and will stop at nothing to get his way. IF YOU LIKE: Baroque music, the plot of "The Princess Bride," a really wicked victim, the triumph of true love. DID YOU KNOW? This production of ARIODANTE replaces the ballet sequences at the end of each act with puppet shows that keep the story moving.

THE STORY: This opera explores the lives of a Japanese-American woman and a German-Jewish woman living in the United States during World War II and the common ground they share. IF YOU LIKE: Historical dramas, art that leaves you with something to think about, intimate theatrical experiences. DID YOU KNOW? Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, all Japanese-Americans were required to evacuate the West Coast. This resulted in the relocation of approximately 120,000 people, many of whom were American citizens, to one of 10 incarceration camps located across the country.

AN OPERA FOR YOUNG PEOPLE November 10-11

Join us for an adventure at the crossroads of science and creativity! Based on a true story, legendary paleontologist Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborn has an incredible collection of fossils at his museum, and turns to Charles R. Knight, the famous naturalist artist, to create vivid paintings that bring these ancient creatures to life for visitors. When Knight’s granddaughter, Rhoda, accompanies him to the museum, she is awestruck by these exciting fossils and the life-like images that her grandfather creates! Join Rhoda and the cast for this opera especially for kids aged 7-12 and their families.

Whether you’re exploring the orchestra pit or props area, or enjoying hands-on demonstrations of operatic stagecraft and costume try-ons, there’s something for everyone. Specifically programmed for children aged 5-10, but a great day of fun for the whole family.
