The 200,000 square foot Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is a state-of-the-art complex that consists of a library, museum, and archive that features interactive visitor experiences, theater presentations, and galleries. Covering an entire city block, it is the largest Presidential Museum ever created and of all the Presidential libraries, the most visited.
Opened in 2005, the Experience Museum was designed to engage with visitors using modern and unique techniques. The goal was to encourage guests to leave feeling more inspired and informed about one of the country’s greatest presidents. There is no better place in the world to learn about the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. For example, many of the exhibits feature immersive technology to make you feel like you’re traveling back in time. Many visitors depart leaving not only better educated about President Lincoln but also feeling an emotional connection to him.
The Presidential Library consists of more than 12 million pieces and is the world's largest collection of Lincoln-related memorabilia. Highlights of the library and museum include the original handwritten Gettysburg Address, the Emancipation Proclamation with Lincoln’s signature, an original copy of the 13th amendment outlawing slavery, and Lincoln’s briefcase.
