Known as San Antonio’s first artisanal craft brewpub, Künstler Brewing has been re-inventing old beer styles into their own creative works of craft beer art. Originally from Germany, Head Brewer and Owner Vera Deckard wanted to create a Wilkomen (translation: welcoming) atmosphere, complete with a fusion of German and Texan flare alongside her US-born husband and partner.
At their downtown location, they’re brewing up an ever-changing lineup of stouts, ales, lagers, IPAs, ciders, and meads available on tap. In addition to their standard Künstler lineup, they offer specialty brews that change often. Wine drinkers can also enjoy a hefty list of reds, whites, and roses, as well as bubbly options.
The food menu includes several German-inspired dishes, such as their weekly special, Schnitzel; a bacon cheddar brat; Kraut salad; and, of course, their giant pretzel. They also serve a variety of meat and cheese boards which pair nicely with their beers. The Germany vs Texas board is a fan favorite and consists of Obatzda, a German Brie cheese spread served with crackers, and TexMex pimento cheese dip served with Fritos.
Another unique offering at Künstler is their Stamm Tisch Klub membership. The name represents the German Stamm Tisch table where regulars gather to drink and socialize. The Klub is limited to 150 members who receive a custom-designed 20 oz. stein, a free birthday pint, discounts on their tabs, a members-only party, exclusive access to their special releases, and an opportunity to be on the judges' panel for their bi-annual homebrew competition.
