Kemah Boardwalk

Located about 20 miles southeast of downtown Houston, Kemah Boardwalk is a family-friendly entertainment center known for its restaurants, amusement rides, and live entertainment. The complex features an iconic waterfront boardwalk which is considered to be one of the best in the United States. Houston locals often come to Kemah Boardwalk to spend the day or to enjoy a long weekend on Galveston Bay. Folks primarily come here to enjoy the amusement park rides and to play carnival-style games. There are often street performers and live musicians making the atmosphere fun and lively. There are some child-friendly rides like the Ferris Wheel and slow-moving train. Older kids and teenagers may want to ride the Boardwalk Bullet wooden roller coaster or experience the Drop Zone's 140-foot freefall. There is something for everyone. Another great option is to take an exciting boat ride. The Thrilling Beast speedboat tour whirls guests through the Galveston Bay at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.

If you're looking for something beyond carnival treats like ice cream and cotton candy, there are numerous restaurants to choose from. Due to its close proximity to the waterfront, seafood is a popular option. There is also a traditional Texas-style steakhouse, pizza parlors, and a sushi restaurant. Couples often enjoy the romantic waterfront dining. Cover photo courtesy of Max Pixel.
