Kauffman House Museum

“Ezra Kauffman built his home and hotel in 1892. He needed new income following 15 years of hardscrabble mining near Lulu City. For more than 50 years, until 1946, the Kauffman family operated their hotel. The house had several subsequent owners until Grand Lake Area Historical Society purchased the log building in 1973 and restored it as a museum, open primarily in the summer. The museum's collections include historic house displays, quilts, clothing, dolls, books, skis, and other winter sports equipment, stereopticon photos and more. It is the main museum of the GLAHS, founded in 1973. The Kaufmann house is the only remaining log hotel in Grand Lake built prior to 1900. Due to its fine log architecture, it is listed on the Colorado State and the National Registers of Historical Places.” ‘Go Grand,’ Kristi Martens
