Founded in 2010, Interrobang Theatre Project (ITP) has a solid track record of critical success, a number of Midwest premieres, a growing fan base, and the repeat engagement of some of Chicago’s finest non-equity artists.

ITP is dedicated to producing plays that are relevant, smart and substantial - with the ultimate goal being that the performance will resonate with the audience long after they leave the theatre. ITP fills a void in the Chicago theatre community by presenting unique plays not readily seen on other Chicago stages.

ITP is committed to a high level of artistic achievement while producing thought-provoking, challenging theatre – striving to create theatre that is an event for the audience. By its nature, live theatre involves risk and we recognize the need to present programming which may provoke strong reaction.

ITP derived its name from the interrobang – a punctuation mark which combines the question mark and exclamation point, joining the Latin word for “question” (interro) with a proofreading term for “exclamation” (bang). Through the plays we produce, ITP aims to pose questions that challenge our understanding and assumptions of who we are and the world in which we live.

Interrobang Theatre Project, under the artistic leadership of Georgette Verdin, has been hailed by the Chicago Tribune as a “company to watch” and by Time Out Chicago as “one of Chicago’s most promising young theatre companies.”
