This year at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center, guests will follow the Peanuts Gang through ice-sculpted scenes from the beloved holiday classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas. The ice sculptures are made by a team of 40 artisans from Harbin in Northeast China, where it stays below freezing for almost half the year. Crafting ice sculptures and carvings to display alongside lanterns became part of Harbin’s culture over the years.
The sculptures on display at ICE! feature three different types of ice. Clear ice is frozen slowly using highly filtered water; white ice is frozen quickly, giving a cloudy look like ice from a refrigerator, and the colored ice used to accent many of the sculptures are made with simple food coloring that’s added in the freezing process.
In addition to scenes from A Charlie Brown Christmas, guests will also experience other holiday-themed ice sculptures, including a Nativity scene in clear crystal ice. There will be over 2 million pounds of ice sculptures on full display. Kids of all ages can have additional fun gliding down five two-story ice slides.
While this self-guided, walk-through experience lasts about 15-30 minutes long, the Gaylord Texan finds that people often spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours for the full ICE! Experience. Just be sure to bundle up; the attraction is kept at 9°F! Both kids and adults are offered complimentary parkas as they tour the indoor winter wonderland. However, it's wise to bring a warm hat and a pair of gloves...or two!
