Digital Storytelling and Visitor Analytics for City and Cultural Institutions
The legendary House Park BBQ is the oldest continuously running BBQ joint in Austin. The old school above ground brick smoker has been smoking meats to perfection since 1943. Of all the great BBQ spots in the city, House Park seems to fly a little bit under the radar. The tourists flock to LA Barbecue, Stiles Switch, and of course Franklins, while House Park is the longtime champion of Austin locals. At House Park BBQ it is a family affair, owner Matt Sullivan took over the business run by both his father and grandfather in 2012.
House Park BBQ expertly smokes chicken, pork rib, sausage, and of course brisket. Sides include the traditional beans, cole slaw, potato salad, as well as pickles and white bread with all meat orders. BBQ in Austin can be a pricey affair, but not at House. The $5 chopped beef sandwich is one of the best cheap lunches in town. House Park BBQ is purely a lunch spot so make sure to get there before 2:30. If you are in the mood for some no frills and no line BBQ, House Park is as good as it gets. House is also BYOB so don't forget to bring a Shiner or two to wash down the brisket.
