Highland Park

Highland Park is a residential area located in central Dallas. The neighborhood is known to be the most affluent town in Dallas and the fourth most affluent town in the state of Texas. The neighborhood has earned a reputation for having some of the most expensive property prices in Dallas. Marvel at the beautiful homes in Highland Park and see where some of the most notable people in Texas reside. Highland Park was originally called Philadelphia Place. The neighborhood was purchased in 1889 by a group of investors from Philadelphia hoping to develop the land as an exclusive housing area along Turtle Creek. The developers dammed Turtle Creek, forming Exall Lake, which became a popular picnic spot for Dallas residents in the 1890s. In 1906, John S. Armstrong invested in Philadelphia Place and renamed it Highland Park. The name was derived from the land's location, being located on high land that overlooked downtown Dallas.

Highland Park has been used in many films and television shows. The area grew somewhat famous in the 1980s when the popular television show Dallas used to film on location there. The neighborhood has also been mentioned in the Netflix original series, House of Cards, as the main character Claire Underwood's hometown. Highland Park is also home to several notable people. A few recognizable names from Highland Park are Bill Clements (42nd and 44th governor of Texas), Angie Harmon (Rizzoli & Isles actress), and Matthew Stafford (quarterback for the Detroit Lions).
