Opening its doors in 2015, Herb'n Twine took over the infamous Speak in Tongues nightclub space to be a casual quick-serve stop for wholesome meals. Owner Brendon Messina, a former sous chef at Rockefeller’s in Cleveland Heights, had a vision for a neighborhood sandwich shop with a “modern-meets-distressed” vibe. Think rustic storefront with exposed brick and ductwork, subway tiles, and high-top tables to seat about a dozen diners. The menu is laden with soups, salads, and sandwiches, providing vegan-friendly and carnivore options alike. Messina relies on local producers like The Pork Chop Shop, Cheese Shop, Blackbird Baking, and Premier Produce for his menu ingredients from spicy chorizo to the perfect balance of salty Italian meats and sweet and spicy deep-fried white meat chicken. All who walk through the doors will leave satisfied thanks to the overly generous portion sizes.
Herb'n Twine's creative menu thrives on seasonal offerings but has plenty of satisfying staples. They bake their bread fresh daily, not too thick, but hearty enough to be stuffed full of goodness. They offer gluten-free options, as well. The friendly staff is available and willing to provide suggestions to hungry patrons. Brendon is always coming up with new weekly sandwich and soup creations to compliment the menu mainstays.
