Looking for a full day of fun? Well, Beach Park, as my kids call it, is your answer. This park was long known as Albion Beach and Park for its location on Albion Ave, but now the official name is Hartigan Beach Park. Nestled on the northern edge of Loyola University’s campus, you’ll find Beach Park tucked away. The perfect location makes it seem like a personal excursion. The only downside to Beach Park is that there is no public restroom close by. Be prepared to make a dash to the Chipotle near Sheridan and Albion Ave if nature calls.
Beach Park is very much a neighborhood park and the times we’ve been there, there's never been much of a crowd. There’s a grassy area for a picnic which is usually available, if you prefer to pack your own lunch. A wooden deck that goes out to the water serves as the unofficial stroller parking. My kids love to go back and forth between the beach area and traditional park. The park has plenty of climbing equipment and slides that accommodate kids of all ages.
The park leads up to a beach where building a sandcastle is a must! Beach Park offers the best of both worlds because the beach is literally just a few steps over. Always a good time!
Street parking is easy and free! We always hit bopNgrill on Sheridan and Albion, our go-to place to eat. This Korean inspired grill was featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
The best thing about this park? Somewhere nearby (I won't tell you where), there’s a tree that appears to be struck by lighting. The tree is home to a fairy garden complete with tiny doors, windows, furniture, even a silver coin for the fairies. Every visit to the park ends with us checking on the fairies to make sure they’re okay! It’s not hard to find, but it’s an adventure in itself.
