“The Insider's Guide” Of Where To Go And What To Do In Chicago
Half Acre Beer Company was founded in 2006 by Gabriel Magliaro and originally, they had their beer brewed in Wisconsin. Flash forward 3 years and Magliaro decided to open up a brewery in Chicago in the North Center Neighborhood. When the equipment was installed in the old warehouse in Lincoln Square, the experimentation to create new beers began and still continues to this day. In 2012, his Lincoln Ave brewhouse added a taproom next door to them.
Now, Half Acre Beer Company is one of the most popular breweries in Chicago and getting a table isn't easy. Besides the brewhouse, it houses a retail shop and a kitchen with a full food menu. The location used to be a warehouse and is 13,000-square-foot space, which is plenty of room for their giant brewing machines. The Lincoln Brewery has a brewing program that focuses on experimentation and mixed fermentation. Just last year, they had an annual production volume of 43,000 US beer barrels. The brewery has three beers they make year-round, and four beers that they make seasonally, one for each season. India Pale Ale is clearly a specialty of theirs, as nearly all their default beers are some form of the pale ale. The only exception to this is their Pony Pilsner, which is one of the three all-year beers. Some of their other beers include mixed-fermentation brews, many of which contain fruit, like peaches, plums, or blueberries. Each comes in a decorative can you will want to Instagram.
Besides buying your beer at the taproom, they sell their cans in their retail store. You will occasionally find a limited edition can sold there that has a limited quantity so you will want to get your hands on it fast. After their Lincoln Brewery did so well, Half Acre Beer Company opened up a second and larger brewhouse on Balmoral in Bowmanville in 2015. Both breweries are available to tour if you want a sneak peek of what goes on behind the scenes.
